T & M BUILDING CO., INC.

History of the Site
Schoolhouse Landing is a new community on the east side of East Granby on the site of a former schoolhouse.
The First School District of the Second School Society of Granby built a wooden schoolhouse on this site in 1800. In 1844 the wooden schoolhouse was replaced with a brick one which had two rooms and cost about $470. This brick building was used as a school until 1924. It functioned as a town hall until 1942 and then as a library for 25 years. Shortly after the library relocated across the street, the vacant building burned in 1967. As for the old wooden schoolhouse, it was sold to Samuel Clark for $69.50. Using oxen, it took 3 days to move the building which became the back ell of the house at 8 South Main Street.
A plaque was
unveiled next to the sidewalk on School Street which describes the history
of the site. Pictured below are members of the East Granby Historical
Society and T & M personnel at the unveiling ceremony. The
second photo below shows a close up of the plaque with East Granby
Historical Society president Zettie Shookus and T & M construction
manager Rob Cohane.
