The model home at Colchester Chase is the Senator design. This four bedroom home sits on a lot which is over 3 acres in size. The front entrance of this 3345 square foot home has a distinctive look with real brick and eight foot tall double doors. On the left side of the home off the living room is a 16'x22' sunken conservatory which has 10 six foot tall windows. The formal dining room is at the rear of the living room.
The sitting room over the conservatory is flooded with light from three sides, two dormers in front, a double window on the side and 2 Velux skylights in the rear. Interior decorator Lynelle Prast has chosen to use this room as a yoga room in the model home.
The sitting room is part of a large master suite which, including the bath and walk-in closet, encompasses 751 square feet. The master bath is entered via double doors located opposite the whirlpool tub which is set below a large electrically operated Velux skylight and in front of a large tempered glass fixed window.
The toilet is tucked in an alcove with its own window. One vanity is taller than the other and both feature a solid granite top with an undermount porcelain sink. Below the tile floor is the Warmup Radiant Heating System. Radiant heating elements were taped to the floor before the tile was laid as shown in the photo below. A separate thermostat is used to control the temperature of the bathroom floor.
A Watson fan is used in the bath. A duct leads from the bath to the fan unit which is located against an outside wall in the attic permitting quieter operation. In the hall is a high tech whole house cooler which permits hot air to be sucked out of the house. It is quieter to operate and has lower operating costs than many other attic fans. The fan can be seen in the ceiling of the upstairs hall in the photo below. Further down the hall natural light enters through the circular Velux Sun Tunnel.
The model home kitchen features solid surface Corian countertops with a built-in drainboard rest atop the natural colored maple door cabinets. Most upper cabinets are 42" tall and the cabinet above the refrigerator is extra deep. An optional glass mullion door is in the corner above the lazy susan. In the center island are shelves which slide out. A roll out double waste basket is beside the sink. These upgraded cabinets are built by Homecrest and called Brighton. The sink is made of Corian and has a Moen pull down faucet as shown in the photo below.
There are stainless steel Kenmore appliances in the kitchen including the new Trio refrigerator pictured below, which is designed to look like an armoire.
Next to the kitchen is the breakfast nook and solarium which has 3 Velux insulated glass skylights as seen below.
This area is open to the family room which has a remote control operated gas fireplace which is located beneath the built-in television. The television has a home theater surround sound system which was installed by Mule Security , the same firm which put in the home's security system and the sound system. A back staircase leads from the family room to the computer loft. Down the hall from the computer loft is a rear bedroom which leads to a built-in child's playhouse that is pictured below.
The model home is heated with propane gas. Titeflex Gastite corrugated stainless steel tubing has been used in place of traditional black iron gas piping in parts of the model. There is a Heil 90% efficient natural gas direct vent furnace.
The model has four other styles of Homecrest cabinetry. The master bath has the white raised panel Harbor Court upgrade and the main bath has the standard oak door, Summerfield Natural. Above the Kenmore washer and dryer is optional Mora Bay white cabinetry. The computer loft has Stratton Caramel raised panel maple doors. Except for the recessed lights, light fixtures in this home are supplied by Progress Lighting. Faucets for this home and others at Colchester Chase are supplied by Moen. The sink in the powder room is an upgraded pedestal sink from Kohler. The main bathroom feature a cultured marble top with integral sink manufactured by Syn-Mar Products.
In back of the model home is a deck built using Trex, a product made from sawdust and reclaimed/recycled plastic. The deck was located so as not to interfere with the ScapeWEL window well which allows extra natural light into the basement.
